Dembling + Dembling Architects, P.C. was retained to design the new Truth Café in the Sojourner Truth Library. 

The project included food and beverage preparation areas, a food service line, storage, and a dining and lounge area.  The café follows a Peet’s “We Proudly Brew” program, and organization of the food preparation area was developed with a Peet’s representative.

DDA was responsible for all built construction and millwork, finishes, food service equipment selection, and furniture selection.  As the café is located in a voluminous space open to the adjacent gallery area, DDA brought focus to the café through use of a painted steel canopy over the food service area.  A paneled partial height wall at the Library entry marks the boundary of the café area and creates the back of banquette seating. 

Upon opening, the café maintained a consistently high volume of student and facility use through the hours of operation.
