Malta Community Center
Malta, ny
Working with representatives of constituent town user groups such as youth, seniors, theatre and the Town Board, DEMBLING + DEMBLING ARCHITECTS, P.C. developed the project program and budget for a new 9,000 square foot Community Center. As part of a planned residential development the site and building needed to complement the neighborhood architecture and coordinate with community trails and play areas.
Development of the design incorporated a gazebo entry structure, porches, fireplace lounge and kitchen facility to enhance the occupants’ experience. A large pine tree will be located at the center of the pedestrian drop off drive as a feature to be used for seasonal decoration. A large multi-purpose room with a stage will facilitate community theatre productions that involve Malta residents of all ages several times a year. At other times the space will be used for meetings, meals and educational seminars. Separate senior and youth activity rooms will allow a range of craft and game activities without conflict.
The site development provides for convenient drop-off and pick-ups with parking for 96 vehicles and a separate service driveway accessing the kitchen area. Between Route 9 and the building, an existing wooded area will be thinned to provide for a pleasant view and area for strolling or just relaxing in a quiet setting away from traffic and activity areas.
